Borders, icons and focus indicators need at least 3:1 contrast against the adjacent colour when they identify a control or its state. Decorative borders and disabled controls are exempt. Check focus and selected states manually too.

Technical findings for your documentation

An audit report documents test results. It is not a certification.

Record the pages and states tested, test methods, open barriers and remediation status. Relying on disproportionate burden under section 17 BFSG requires a separate assessment. A scan does not replace it.

It depends what you count. Deque reviewed real audits. Automated axe tests found 57.38% of the individual findings, because failures such as contrast and missing labels come up often. The GOV.UK test counted only errors and warnings. The best single tool found 37% of the built-in barriers. None of the ten tools found 29%. navable also scans states behind login, inside dialogs and on form errors. You still check keyboard paths, alt-text quality and screen reader behaviour by hand.
